Title:Perspectives in space science and exploration
Lecturer:Roberto Battiston (University of Trento)
Chair:Wang Yifang
Time:10:30 AM, January 6, 2020
Venue:C305, Main Building
Abstract:
Space is the ultimate laboratory to test the laws of physics. Starting from results of existing missions the speaker will review future space programs, their science potential versus the issues left open in our current understanding of the universe
About the speaker:
Professor Roberto Battiston, is currently chair of Experimental Physics at the University of Trento. After his physics degree at the Scuola Normale in Pisa he did his PhD in Paris, on the UA2 experiment at Cern (W and Z discovery). He led experimental teams participating to HEP experiments (SLD and L3). In the mid‘90s, together with Professor S.C.C. Ting started the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer on the ISS. He has developed particle instruments to study novel techniques to remotely sense earthquakes from space (Limadou payload on the CSES satellite). From 2014 to 2018 he has been the President of the Italian Space Agency. He has been recently awarded the China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award (2019).
