Abstract:

The first part of the talk, a brief review of the spectroscopic data on the light non-strange mesons will be given. I will argue that these data can be summarized as a systematic clustering of states near certain values of energy. The emerging broad degeneracy seems to have the same O(4) symmetry as the Hydrogen atom. In the second part of the talk, I will introduce?a novel approach to construction of hadron spectroscopy, this approach proposes a non-string explanation for the origin of almost linear Regge and radial trajectories in the light meson spectrum. The resulting classification of light mesons turns out to be in a better agreement with the experimental observations than the standard quark model classification.

About the Speaker:

Sergei Afonin is a full professor at Saint Petersburg University (Department of Physics,?chair of high energy and particle physics) and leading researcher at Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute, Russia. His main research interest lies in applications of advanced theoretical models and methods to meson spectroscopy. He is an expert in holographic QCD, in QCD sum rules in the limit of large number of colors, and in the Regge spectroscopy.
