題目:Novel types of TeV-PeV particle accelerators in the Galaxy and the nearby Universe
摘要:Various types of astrophysical objects, both Galactic and extragalactic, are known or suspected to be accelerating particles to TeV-PeV energies and beyond.
However, increasingly sensitive gamma-ray observations may uncover previously unrecognized classes of astrophysical particle accelerators. Here we propose two such kinds of objects. 1) Collisions of high-velocity clouds with the Galactic disk, which may be the origin of some unidentified Galactic GeV-TeV sources (Inoue et al. 2017, ApJ 849, 22; arXiv:1708.08574). 2) Fast winds flowing out from active galactic nuclei, including radio-quiet Seyfert galaxies such as NGC 1068, a potential IceCube neutrino source (Inoue, Cerruti et al, in preparation).
We discuss the prospects for testing these proposals with LHAASO and other facilities, and the consequent implications, including possible new insight into the evolution of galaxies and supermassive black holes.
